Knowledge, distributed — not just power, computed.
"Ilm" is the Arabic and Urdu word for knowledge. The name is a bet: that the institutions, markets, and governments now being reshaped by artificial intelligence will be judged less by how much computing power they command, and more by how widely they distribute the capability that power creates.
Most commentary on AI splits into two failure modes — breathless techno-optimism, or generalized alarm. Neither is very useful to the people actually responsible for governing, deploying, or competing with these systems. The Ilm Initiative exists to write the third thing: grounded, specific analysis for people who have to make real decisions under real constraints — regulators, executives, and the institutions caught between them.
